Navy Commander Vice Admiral Piyal de Silva yesterday (Sept 24) signed the President's order to reinstate Yoshitha Rajapaksa - former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's son, as a Lieutenant to the Navy.
Accordingly, the appointment would come into effect from February 28, 2016. This would also mean that Mr. Rajapaksa would receive his salaries and allowances from the said date.
Lieutenant Rajapaksa had been interdicted after an investigation had been launched into the now-defunct Carlton Sports Network (CSN) which is believed to have ties with the Rajapaksa family.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
