President orders to provide fuel to all the farmers for Maha season

The responsibility of providing essential fuel to the farmers for paddy cultivation in the coming Mal1a season has been entrusted to all the district secretaries by the HE the President Ranil Wickramasinghe, says Mahinda Amaraweera the Minister for Agriculture, Wild life and Forest resource department.

The Food Security Committee meeting chaired by the HE the President Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed a special work order to supply the fuel required for paddy cultivation in the high season to the farmers without shortage. Accordingly, the Minister stated that Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will appoint a special officer to coordinate the supply of fuel to the farmers in each district, and all district secretaries should take the necessary steps.

The Minister said that all farmers should discuss with the district secretary if there is any problem in getting the fuel they need for paddy cultivation.
Arrangements have been made to provide urea fertilizer and Muriate of Potash tender has already been awarded and completed. According to that, 40,000 metric tons of MOP is to be received by November.

The first stock of 12,750 metric tons  of  urea  fertilizer  is to be received by the last week of this month  the remaining stocks are to be received by our country under three phases and the related tender will be awarded by tomorrow ( 13).

The urea fertilizer distribution for the high season has already started and arrangements have been made to provide the required fertilizer to the farmers in all the districts for applying the first round of fertilizer after paddy cultivation.

The farmers will be able to cultivate in the ratio of 70 percent chemical fertilizers and 30 percent organic fertilizers as recommended by the Department of Agriculture.
