Most Long-Distance trains cancelled owing to strike

Long-Distance trains are not operating from the Colombo Fort Railway Station this morning following a strike launched last night by the Locomotive Operating Engineers' Union.

Only the Badulla and Kandy long-distance trains had left the Fort Railway Station this morning. 

The Railway Main Control Room stated about 50 per cent of office trains did operate to Colombo this morning. However, it was uncertain if any of these would operate from Colombo by this evening. 

The union launched the strike from midnight yesterday over issues regarding the scheme of recruitment for assistant engine drivers.
