South Africa beat Sri Lanka by 10 runs in a nail-biting first T20 International played at Cape Town earlier today (Mar 20)
Sri Lanka after being put into bat first posted a score of 134/7 with debutant Kamindhu Mendis top scoring with 41 off 29.
The Proteas bowlers ran through the Lankan batting as Phehlukwayo led the attack by picking up three wickets for 25 in his quota of four overs.
In response, the South African batsman failed to surpass the target which seemed quite achievable at the beginning of the innings.
With wickets falling at regular intervals, the Proteas batting line-up were restricted to 134/8 thanks to a fine death bowling spell by skipper Lasith Malinga who finished off with figures of 11/2.
With the match being subsequently contested through a super over South Africa posed Sri Lanka a target of 15 to achieve within six balls. The Sri Lankans however failed to respond accordingly as they managed to score only 5 runs.
