Sri Lanka’s women’s captain – Chamari Athapaththu – and fellow senior – Inoka Ranaweera – were at least two Lankan names to go unsuccessful and unsold at the Indian Inaugural Women’s Premier League auction on Monday.
Athapaththu, skipper and their iron lady, famously led her team to a shock win over hosts in the ongoing Women’s World T20, staging an upset of the apple cart. In the next match too, though, she failed to fire with the bat, she compensated with the ball picking up two-wickets in a match-winning performance.
Inoka Ranaweera also, was the sole Sri Lankan to be named in the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2022, recently. However, their exclusion only left an incomprehensible and inexplicable result.
Both of the seniors have been in the news, leading their teams to match-winning performances in the World Cup.
From other names, wicket-keeper batter, Anushka Sanjeewani, was the other casualty, going unpicked.
The trio of Lankans were set at a base price of INR 30 lakh, or SLR 13,172,621.80
