Cricket: Perth Scorchers sign Chamari Atapattu for WBBL 7

Sport

Perth Scorchers have signed Sri Lanka women's skipper Chamari Atapattu for the upcoming Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), which will play its seventh installment come October and November.

Atapattu, 31, was part of the WBBL in 2017 and 2019 when she appeared for Melbourne Renegades.

She has played in 84 ODIs and 85 T20s representing Sri Lanka and has a run-tally of 2625 and 1646 in both respective versions, becoming one of country's most successful batters of all time.

"Undoubtedly Chamari Atapattu is a match winner and she can easily change the course of the game with her aggressive batting and skills," Shelley Nitschke, the Head Coach of Perth Scorchers Women's team stated.

"Perth is like my second home, I have my family and friends here," Atapattu stated.

"I have fond memories about Australia. I like the weather here and above all, I like to play against Australian bowlers. They challenge you to perform your best," she added.

The schedule of the 7th WBBL has not yet been released but Cricket Australia has confirmed that it would include 59 games and will be held during the latter part of the year 2021.
