"The Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee Mr. Ashantha De Mel resigned from the Selection Committee with immediate effect, citing personal reasons," SLC's media release stated.
"We respect his decision and thank him for the services rendered to Sri Lanka Cricket during his tenure as the Chairman of the Cricket Selection Committee," the media release added quoting Ashley de Silva, the CEO of SLC.
De Mel's replacement has not been officially named, but sources tip former national cricketers Pramodya Wickramasinghe or Kapila Wijegunawardene to fill in the vacant position of Chief Selector.
