Jaffna Kings suffered their second defeat at the hands of Kandy Falcons after they fell short by ten-runs in the second of the double-header and the last match at Pallekele on Wednesday.
After setting a target respectable target of 160, courtesy to two West Indian knocks, Fabien Allen, 47, and Andre Fletcher, 35, they managed to defend in a close-contest.
Allen, the 27-year old Jamaican emerged the Falcons hero with the bat in pulling the side out of the rut of 6 for 79 after 13.2 overs in a transformation to 151 when he was eighth out having added 40 for the seventh wicket with Ashen Bandara 24, and 32 for the eighth wicket with Chamika Karunaratne who was unbeaten on 18.
Then Carlos Braithwaite followed it up with a 4 wicket burst for 18 as the Falcons held the Jaffna Kings to 150 for 9 defending 160 for 8 off 20 overs. Upfront, also to the fore was West Indian Andre Fletcher with 35. Both sides conspicuously batted out of low depths with the Kings too recovering from 6 for 99 on Sadeera Samarawickrama’s 48 off 41 with solely opening batsman Avishka Fernando among the frontline runs with 33 off 20 with the rest faltering against the twosome of Braithwaite and Falcons skipper Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva 2 for 21.
Fabian Allen took the Player-of-the-Match award.
