Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) has placed themselves in a make or break position after the sudden postponement of the Commander's Cup Rugby 7s, while Dialog Axiata, their main sponsors also have raised concerns over the conduct of the local rugby authorities.
The situation drags further of a possible restart to the much awaited rugby competitions, which SLR was proudly claiming of making a grand return with a series of 7s tournaments some months ago.
The wait for competitive club rugby in Sri Lanka will continue as the realization of the proposed inter-club 7’s tournament looks even more unlikely after the main sponsor Dialog Axiata decided to pull out in the eleventh hour having re-evaluated the sponsorship request submitted by SLR.
SLR has presented a much higher budget that what it gave initially to Dialog Axiata and it will only leave SLR with no other option than to hunt out for new potentials for sponsorships.
