Sri Lanka's opening ODI versus New Zealand on March 25 will be a fundraiser for their hurricane-hit country, New Zealand Cricket announced on Wednesday. [Find out more].
Cyclone Gabrielle landed on a devastating note after it hit New Zealand's North Island on Feb. 12.
New Zealand pacie Blair Tickner's home town Hastings, in the Hawke's Bay region of the New Zealand's east, was one of the worst-hit areas.
All ticket proceeds and crowd contributions will be donated to the New Zealand Red Cross Disaster Fund, governing body NZC said. Their sponsors ANZ Bank have pledged 1 million New Zealand dollars ($622,600) to the fund.
Hence, two causes of - humanity and cricket - will be part of this ODI-leg of the tour.
On a humanity note, for hosts New Zealand, this would raise funds for their disaster relief.
On a cricketing cause, also common for the touring Lankans, this would be match practise ahead of the 50-over World Cup in India, later this year.
