Volleyball: CEB and Army win Munchee National Super League titles

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Sri Lanka Army emerged men’s and women’s champions at the Munchee National Super League Volleyball championships played at the National Youth Services Council Indoor courts.

CEB beat Bitu Link Sports Club 3-1 (25/22, 25/21, 22/25, 25/14) while Army women also powered their way to a 3-1 (25/19, 21/25, 25/22, 25/22) victory. 

B.A.C Hirushan of CEB was adjudged the most valuable male player of the tournament while Thilini Wasana Perera of Army team walked away with the award for most valuable female spiker of the tournament.

The tournament drew in a large number of participants from across the country and they were treated with some dazzling performances by the teams who were in action in the two finals.

The event organized by Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation was sponsored by Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) whose commitment towards sports in Sri Lanka extends beyond simple corporate sponsorships.

Meanwhile the event was lit up by the launch of a theme song created by for the National Volleyball team ahead of the Asian Volleyball Championship. 

The song will be played around the country, attracting the ardent volleyball fan base, instilling pride for the national sport and cheering the team in anticipation of a successful victory.

The Asian Volleyball Championship will be held in held during August in Japan.

The tournament served as a selection trial to pick national squad for the Asian tournament.
