Asia Cup T20: Sri Lanka records unimpressive win against UAE

Sri Lanka recorded an unimpressive 14-run win against the United Arab Emirates in their opening match of the Asia Cup Twenty20 Championship at Mirpur in Bangladesh on Thursday (25).

Put into bat first, Sri Lanka posted 129-8 and restricted UAE for 115-9.

Skipper Lasith Malinga claimed four wickets to win the man-of-the-match award but overall Sri Lankans were unimpressive with their performances. 

Dinesh Chandimal, coming in as the opener smashed 50 runs off 39 deliveries to top score for Sri Lanka.

Chandimal and TM Dilshan put on 68 runs on board for Sri Lanka but others failed to add much value in the batting lineup. 

Chandmal hit seven boundaries and a six as Dilshan hit 27 off 28 deliveries inclusive of four boundaries. 

Amjad Javed claimed three wickets while MohammadNaveed and Mohammad Shahzad took two wickets each. 

UAE in their run chase were struggling at 47-6 at one stage but a stubborn knock of 37 off 36 deliveries by Swapnil Patil delayed Sri Lanka’s victory. 

Malinga claimed four wickets while Nuwan Kulasekara picked three scalps. 

Leg-spinner Rangana Herath picked two. 

Sri Lanka will meet Bangladesh on Sunday (28) at Dhaka.
