Galle District accumulated a mammoth 1009 points to push Matara district with 489.5 points to second spot and Hambantota district with 396.5 points to third place at the 25th Southern Province Sports Festival organized by the Southern Province Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Galle were Men's champions at Badminton, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Table Tennis, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Marathon Run, Cross Country Run, Cycling, Swimming, Gymnastics, Karate do, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Judo and Athletics.
In the women's events Galle were champions at Badminton, Basketball, Softball Cricket, Elle, Football, Hockey, Kabaddi, Table Tennis, Netball, Cycling, Swimming, Gymnastics, Karate do and Taekwondo.
Matara District were men's champions at Softball Cricket, Race Walking, Boxing, Bodybuilding and Judo while The lasses from Matara were champions at Race Walking and Marathon Run.
Hambantota district won the men's Elle and Beach Volleyball while the women were champions at Athletics, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Cross Country Run, Weight Lifting and Judo.
