Gampaha District emerged champions of the 27th National Youth Sports Festival as the three-day meet came to an end with 13 new meet records at the Diyagama Stadium on Sunday (15).
Kurunegala and Colombo Districts finished second and third respectively as long jumper Danushka Sandaruwan and triple jumpers Vidusha Lakshani and Chamal Kumarasiri came out with superb performances to win the awards for best athletes of their respective age groups.
Women’s triple jump national record holder Vidusha Lakshani from Gampaha District was out of her usual form, but went on to win the gold medal with her event with an achievement of 12.84metres.
He performance ensured Lakshani the Girls Under-20 best female athlete’s award.
Sprinter Chandrika Rasnayake from Kurunegala District won the 200m, 400m and the 4x400m relay and went on to grab the Women’s Over-20 best athlete’s award for the second year running.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
