Manjula Kumara Wijesekera, gold medalist at 12th South Asian Games, won the bronze medal at the 7th Seventh Asian Indoor Athletic Championships which commenced in Doha, Qatar on Saturday (20).
Five Sri Lankan athletes are taking part in the contest – three males and two females.
In the High Jump event Manjula Kumara cleared 2.24 metres which is a Sri Lanka Indoor Games record, incidentally held by Kumara having cleared 2.23 metres.
Kumara won the gold medal in the same event at the recent 12th South Asian Games held in India clearing 2.17 metres.
He is the holder of the Sri Lanka record at 2.27 metres.
The competition, conducted by the Asian Athletics Confederation where over 30 Asian countries are taking part, ends on Sunday (21).
