Long distance runner Geethani Rajasekara of Sri Lanka Army made history with a stunning performance at the Asian Marathon Championship in Hong Kong on Sunday (25). Thus she established a new National Record and became the first Sri Lankan female to qualify for the IAAF World Championships marathon and further build up hopes of being the first female athlete from the country to run at Olympics. Rajasekara timed 2 hours, 40 minutes and 07 seconds to finish fifth in the Asian Marathon as she bettered her own record established at national level. She set the former national record by clocking 2 hours, 47 minutes and 55 seconds while making her debut at the Colombo Marathon in October 2014.
