Sri Lanka Schools Cross Country teams claimed the Girls' and Boys' team championships at the Asian Schools Cross Country Championship held in Hong Kong, this Monday (4).
The Sri Lanka Girls' team won the team title after securing first, second, third, seventh and 17th positions while the Boys' team were named team winners after its athletes finished off at third, fourth, sixth, eighth, 12th and 17th positions.
In the Girls category, Chamini Herath, Jayanthi Kanagaratne, Prasanthi Ratnayake and Subashini Premaratne were placed among the top four places while Geethani Jayasinghe and Hasanthi Madumali were placed at seventh and 17th respectively.
The Boys' team was represented by Dammika Wijesuriya, Chanidu Madusanka, Eranga Silva, Sithum Sanjaya, Pradeep Kumara and Harsha Karunaratne.
Interestingly, the country's Ministry of Education refused to fund the Sri Lanka Schools Cross Country teams for reasons better known to them.
