St. Sylvester’s College beat traditional rivals Vidyartha College by 7 wickets to win the M.B.W. Mediwaka Memorial Trophy in their 26th annual One Day cricket match played at the Pallekele Stadium on Sunday (20).
Put into bat Vidyartha were restricted to 143-8 in the allotted 50 overs and St. Sylvester’s romped to victory losing three wickets and with 17 overs to spare.
For Vidyartha Nimesha Senanayake top scored with 38 while Nipuna Kumarasiri remained unbeaten on 28.
Manuja Perera and Pabasara Perera grabbed three wickets each.
Manjula later on scored an unbeaten 35 for St. Sylvester’s and won the man-of-the-match award while Pabasara won the best bowler’s award.
Thenuka Liyanage, who top scored with 60 for the winners, was named the best batsman of the match.
Malith Prematillake remained unbeaten on 30 when St. Sylvester’s reached the winning post.
The Sylverstrians completely swept the individual awards on offer after Sivakuamr Tyronne grabbed the award for the best fielder.
