Carrom: Navy's Roshita wins a double crown at President's Cup Championship

Joseph Roshita of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) won a Double Crown at the 19th President's Cup Carrom Championship conducted by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka at their Headquarters in Delkanda. 

Royalist Shaheed Hilmy defeated former World Champion Nishantha Fernando 2-0 (25-2, 25-12), to win the Men's championship, while Roshita had to fight all the way to the championship by defeating Chalani Lakmali Liyanage of Sri Lanka Air Force, 2-1. 

Roshita won the first game 25-24, after a close fight, and Liyanage came back to win the second game with some fine slicing work to win 25-11, but she lost her way in the final game to go down 12-25. 

Roshita partnering Chalani Lakmali won the Women's Doubles, defeating the schoolgirl pair of Tashmila Kavindi-Nuwanthika Sanjeevani of Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, 2-0. 

The tournament was conducted in four categories viz Men and Women Singles and Doubles, with the participation of 400 players islandwide. 

The seven slams in the tournament were scored by Shaheed Hilmy (2), M. Sherifdeen (2), W.M. Mufeez, Hasitha Anuruddha and Joseph Roshita (1 each).

Champion: Shaheed Hilmy (Royal College, Colombo) (25-2, 25-12) 
Runner-up: Nishantha Fernando (SL Navy) 
Third Place: M. Sherifdeen (SL Army) (25-4, 25-5) 

Women's Singles: 
Champion: Joseph Roshita (SL Navy) (25-24, 11-25, 25-12) 
Runner-up: Chalani Lakmali Liyanage (SL Air Force) 
Third Place: Maduka Dilshani (SL Army) (25-16, 25-24) 

Men's Doubles: 
Champions: Udesh Chandima/Dineth Dulakshana (SL Air Force) (20-25, 25-23, 25-6) 
Runners-up: Hasitha Anuruddha/Avon Wickremasinghe (SL Air Force) 
Third Place: Anas Ahamed/Suraj Maduwantha (SL Army) (25-16, 25-3) 

Women's Doubles: 
Champions: Joseph Roshita (SL Navy)/Chalani Lakmali (SL Air Force) (25-22, 25-10) 
Runners-up: Tashmila Kavindi/Nuwanthika Sanjeevani (Mahamaya Balika, Nugegoda) 
Third Place: Shashika Sandamali/Rebecca Dalrine (SL Army) (25-6, 25-11)
