Carrom: Udayaga, Lakmali top slicers at NWP Championship

Curtain came down ofn the North Western Province (NWP) Carrom Championship last weekend at the Auditorium of Janadhipathi Shilpa Shalika, Kuliyapitiya, with Y.M.P. Udayaga winning the Men’s championship, while W. Anusha Lakmali Jayaweera clinched the Women’s championship. 

Organised by the NWP Sports Ministry and conducted by the Sri Lanka Carrom Federation (SLCF), the tournament was staged to select the Western Province Men’s and Women’s teams for the National Sports Festival (NSF). 

The standard exhibited by the provincial slicers signalled that at the NSF, the high ranked players will have to come up with their best to prevent them from being upset.

Both Men’s and Women’s finals produced high quality slicing. 

In the Men’s finals, Udayaga defeated Dushyantha N. Wijayasinghe while Lakmali Jayaweera scored a hard fought victory over M.Z. Mohamed. 

Disuru Dilmith Jayasiri and M.J. Chathurika occupied 3rd spot in the Men’s and Women’s categories respectively. 

On the directions of NWP Sports Director, Wasantha Gunaselera, along with Administrative Officer Y.M.Y.P. Yapa and District Sports Officer Priyanath Senapala this tournament was organised for players from Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts. 

Under the supervision of CFSL, the following players were selected to represent the Men’s and Women’s teams. 

Men’s: Y.M.P. Udayanga, Dushyantha N. Wijayasinghe, Disuru Dilmith Jayasiri, H.M. Samith, H.M.A. Priyadarshana, B. Dammika Rohan and A.C.M. Aslam 

Women’s: Anusha Lakmali Jayaweera, M.Z. Mohamed, M.J. Chathurika, B.M.K. Sandya, W.M.S. Shashiprabha, W.V.K. Dimalshani and W.D. Nirosha Fernando.
