Cricket: 6th Lawyers' World Cup in Sri Lanka from August 10 to 20

Sri Lanka will host the 6th Lawyers' Cricket World Cup to be played at six venues from August 10 to 20. 

Sri Lanka Lawyers' Cricket Club (SLLCC) volunteered to host this event at a meeting of the International Committee during the 5th Lawyers World Cup in Brisbane, Australia, in 2015-16. 

The 6th edition will feature 12 teams in 2 groups at the opening ceremony and an exhibition match between Judges and International Lawyers on August 10. 

Sri Lanka will field 2 teams, along with Australia, India and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka 'A' will play in Group A along with India, Barristers of England and Wales (BEWCC), West Indies, Bangladesh 'B' and Australia 'B'. 

Pakistan, Australia, Solicitors of England and Wales, Bangladesh, India 'B' and host Sri Lanka 'B' are in Group B. 

Matches will be worked off at the P. Sara Oval, De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa, Royal College, Thurstan College, BRC and Bloomfield C&AC grounds with South Asian cricket giants India and Sri Lanka locking horns in the opening fixture on August 11 at the P. Sara Oval. 

In the Cup championship, Group A leaders will play against Group B runners-up in one semifinal, while Group A runners-up will play Group B leaders in the second semifinal. 

Group A No.3 will play against Group B No.4 in one semifinal of the Plate championship, while Group 4 No.4 will play against Group B No.3 in the other semifinals of the Plate championship. 

The Plate championship semifinals and final will be of 20-Over fixtures. 

The Plate championship final will be played at the Royal College Grounds on Saturday, August 19, while the finals of the 6th Lawyers Cricket World Cup will take place at the SSC Grounds on Sunday, August 20, commencing at 10.00am. 

The inaugural Lawyers Cricket World Cup was played in Hyderabad, India, in 2007 and the second match of the series was played in England in 2009 and Australia emerged champions. 

In 2011, India beat Sri Lanka at the third World Cup final in the West Indies. In 2013, Pakistan beat India in the final held in India. 

In 2015, Pakistan again beat India in the final in Australia, for their second successive Lawyers World Cup win.
