Sri Lanka cricketer Pathum Nissanka, who suffered a blow to his head fielding at short leg in the two-day warm-up match against England at NCC, is 'out of danger', but will be closely observed for the next 24 hours' according Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) medical team.
Nissanka was fielding at short leg at the time England batsman Jos Buttler pulled off-spinner Nishan Peiris and stuck the close in-fielder.
Nissanka had ducked to avoid a possible collision of the ball to his head, and he was wearing a protective helmet.
But the fielder had collapsed to the ground soon after he was hit on the head.
The English medical team rushed to the scene but Nissanka had remained unmoved where he fell for over 15 minutes, eventually, being taken off the field on a stretcher, after placing a neck brace.
Sources say the player had not lost consciousness, but had complained of a neck pain.
SLC medical staff source stated that Nissanka is out of danger, as medical reports and a MRI scan proved positive notes in favour of the player.
However the player would be assessed for the next 24 hours of the improvement of his condition.
