Wales beat Sri Lanka 3-1 in the Women's Team Group 2, third match at the Commonwealth Games today (6).
Experienced paddler of the Sri Lanka unit, Ishara Madurangi (27), however gave a stiff fight against 11-year-old Welsh Anna Hursey to record the team's only win 3-2.
Madurangi won the first two sets 11-9 and 11-7 before Hursey bounced back to equalize with back-to-back wins in the following two sets 11-7 and 12-10.
In the decider set Madurangi made use of her experience to record a thrilling 11-7 win and claim the match.
In the first Singles game of the match Charlotte Carey beat Erandi Warusawithana 3-0 -- 11-4, 11-6 and 11-7.
In the third duel Welsh paddlers Chloe Thomas and Anna Hursey beat Ishara Madurangi and Hansani Kapugeekiyana 3-0 with set scores of 11-8, 11-9 and 11-6.
Charlotte Varey easily overcame Kapugeekiyana 3-0 in the fourth match, a Singles, with scores of 11-4, 11-5 and 11-8 while the fifth match between Chloe Thomas and Earnadi Warusawithana was not played after Wales won 3-1 overall.
