Defending champions M.H. Mohammed Playground of Wanathamulla overcame Kirulapona United 3-0 in the final of the Silver Cup 2015 conducted by the Colombo Football League in the final at the City League ground, Slave Island.
A total of 21 teams affiliated to the Colombo Football League participated in this knockout competition conducted for the second successive year.
M.H. Mohammed Playground defeated Valencia League 4-0 in a pre-quarter final game and in the quarters drubbed Eveready SC 5-0. In the semis beat Colombo City FC 2-0.
Meanwhile Kirulapona United scored an easy 6-0 win over Old Hinduitz 6-0 and overcame Old Joes 1-0 after a tough fight and in the quarters beat 11 Kolons 7-0.
In the semis they beat Old Hameedias 3-0 to be in the final.
M.H. Mohammed Playground led 2-0 at the half.
The first goal was netted in by skipper C. Nadeeshan and the second goal was scored by W.A.N. Chintaka.
In the second half once again C. Nadeeshan scored again to give the winners a 3-0 lead.
The winning team M.H. Mohammed Playground Wanathamulla received Rs. 25,000 as prize money and the runners-up Kirulapona United were in line for Rs. 15,000 for being the runners-up.
