Despite both teams being guaranteed with promotions to the Champions League next season, Moragasmulla Sports Club made sure they make the journey joyfully with a 1-0 victory against Pelicans Sports Club Kurunegala in the final of the FFSL Premier League Division I Championship played at the Maliyadeva College ground on Saturday (10).
H.R. Priyawansa struck for Moragasmulla SC in the 37th minute to open scoring but it eventually turned out to be the only occasion a goal was scored. Both sides failed to run over each other even in the second half as Moragasmulla SC walked out winners.
A total of 22 teams took part in the tournament this year. Pelicans SC beat Red Star SC Ratmalana 3-1 in the semi-final while in the second qualifier Moragasmulla SC defeated Comrades SC Badulla 3-1 to reach the final.
