Football: Victorious Colombo FC players to receive special bonus

The management of Colombo Football Club has decided to award their players a special Bonus for emerging champions of the Dialog Champions League for the second successive year.

The Colombo FC team was inaugurated in the year 2008 and has completed nine years. 

Theirs is the only team to have reached professional status in Sri Lanka.

There are former national players, present national players, school football players and foreign players in the side. 

To date Colombo FC has won the two major tournaments in the island - The FA Cup and the Dialog Champions League. Colombo FC’s first championship was the Silver Cup.

By defeating Java Lane 3-2 in 2010. 

The FA Cup was won in 2014 defeating Blue Star 1-0 in the final. Colombo is affiliated to City Football League. 

Colombo FC is managed by Expo Lanka Company and a majority of their players are employed at Expo Lanka Co.

The team has also qualified for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on two occasions. 

Colombo FC lost two matches in the 2016 competition losing to Mohun Bagan, Kolkata 1-2 in the first leg in Colombo. 

They also lost the second leg to Mohun Bagan 2-0 in Kolkota.

A. Sampoo is the manager of the team and the Head Coach is M.S.M. Roomy. 

The skipper of the team is Rauhmy Mohammed.

According to the Manager and Coach of the Colombo FC the team is well disciplined and the management is keeping a close check on the players’ welfare. 

That is the secret of their success.

There are three foreign players in the side. 

They are from Nigeria (2) and one from Ivory Coast. 

They are provided all facilities and also draw a salary of SLR 65,000/- per month.

The management also pays a sum of Five Lakhs for team expenses. 

The management has also decided to pay Rs. 50,000 each towards a player for winning the title this year.

In the Dialog Premier League round they played eight games winning five and losing three. 

They were placed third in the Points Table and qualified for the Super Eight Round out of 18 teams.

In the Super Eight Round they played seven games and lost to Blue Star to suffer the only defeat. They beat Solid SC 3-0; beat Air Force 2-1; beat Army 2-0; beat Navy 3-1; Drew against New Youngs nil all and Lost to Blue Star 0-1.

Colombo FC were in third spot until the final day. 

Second placed Blue Star lost to Army 7-3 and thus entered the final to clash with Renown which they won 3-1 to emerge champions.
