General: 469 school stars to be felicitated on June 26 at Milo Colours Nite

The annual All Island Schools Milo colours nite organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Council (SLSSC) along with the Minister of Education and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd for the 17th successive year is scheduled be held today (26) at the Nelum Pokuna Theater from 2.00pm onwards.   469 sportsman and sportswomen from schools around the island have been selected to receive their colours for their outstanding performances in the 31 sports which comes under the umbrella of the SLSSC.   Five boys and girls have been named for the award for the most outstanding and up and coming categories.   They have not selected the final recipients for these categories and the winners will be named on the day of the award ceremony.   In the boy’s category Imesh Udaya Ranasinghe of Vidyartha Kandy (Table Tennis), Himasha Eshan of Kalutara MV (Athletics), Cherantha de Silva of Ananda (Aquatic Sports), Buwaneka Goonetileke of Richmod (Badminton) and A.L.A.T.M. Devasiri of Joseph Vaz Wennappuwa (Karate) are the five recipients.   In the girl’s category the five recipients are Erandi Dilushika Warusawithana of Dharmasoka MV Ambalangoda (Table Tennis), Vidusha Lakshani of St Mary’s Kegalle (Athletics), Nadeera Jayasekera of Colombo International School (Aquatic Sports), Thilina Hendahewa of Visakha Colombo (Badminton), K.V. Pooja Suraweera of Visaka BV Sapugaskand (Karate) and Tiumi Yashora of Viskha Colombo (Chess).   In addition to the above ten recipients five each from the boys and girls categories have been named to be selected as the Emerging Sportsmen and Sportswomen for the year 2014.   The five recipients in the boys category are Prasad Jayasanka de Silva of Vidyartha Kandy (Table Tennis), R.D.A. Vidusanka of St Mary’s Kegalle (Athletics), Sachin Dias of St Sebastian’s Moratuwa (Badminton), Kasun Wimalasooriya of Dharmasoka MV (Chess) and N.A.M.S. Senadikara of Galahitiyawa Central (Karate).   The five recipients in the girl’s category are Hansanee Piumila Kapugeekiyana of Visakha Colombo (Table Tennis), Dasuni Hansika Mendis of Visakha Colombo (Chess), Kaushalya Madushani of Kuliyapitiya Central (Athltics), Chamoda Fonseka of Lyceum International (Aquatic Sports), Sachini Hirunika Rodrigo og Kalutara BV (Netball) and Sriyani Kumari Herath of Sapugaskanda MV (Karate).   The 469 award winners selected from 31 sports are Athletics (21), Hockey (24), Judo (8), Rugger (25), Volleyball (24), Basketball (12), Netball (46), Football (22), Boxing (20), Weightlifting (8), Cricket (30), Gymnastics (10), Chess (18), Table Tennis (12), Carrom (12), Karate (28), Badminton (10), Softball Cricket (11), Throwball (4), Aerobic Gymnastic (6), Tennis (8), Squash (8), Taekwondo (7), Handball (8), Baseball (18), Elle (12), Scrabble (1), Cycling (4), Mountaineering (9), Badminton (10), and Rowing (3).   The chief guest will be Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Minister of Education with Mrs. Shivani Hedge, Managing Directress, Nestle Lanka Ltd as the guest of honour.
