Golf: Arvind and Roshani win Pin and Pam Fernando titles

Arvind Fernando played consistent golf throughout the week and emerged the worthy winner of the Pin Fernando Trophy 2015 defeating Ravindra Wijegunaratne, another young golfer with great potential, while Roshani Sangani won the Pam Fernando Trophy at the Royal Colombo Golf Club in Colombo on Friday (17).   Arvind restarting golf after years of studies overseas returned to Sri Lanka and was handed a 16 Handicap four months ago and was reduced to 12 after some good scores in the South West Monsoon Meet and the very next tournament was the best qualifier with a sensational Net 64 off a 12 Handicap.   The five over par gross round earned Arvind a further 3 shot cut and played the knockout stage of the Pin Fernando Trophy off a 9 handicap.   Young Arvind overcame a shock in the quarter-final when Diresh Palihena was 1 up playing the 18th and the match went down the 19th and Arvind eventually beat Diresh on the 20th.   Arvind has displayed excellent temperament and like his illustrious father Arjun Fernando confirmed great potential and a talent for the future of Sri Lankan golf.   A record was established with Arvind’s victory when the only Father and Son combination of Arjun Fernando winning the Pin Fernando Trophy in 1995 and 2000, and Arvind completing the father and son combination win this year.   Roshini Sangani took an early lead of 2 up after the 6th only for Swen Selvaratnam to fight back and establish a 2 up lead at the 11th.   However, in a ding-dong battle Roshini clawed her way back and was All Square on the 18th.   Amidst much tension the final went in to Sudden death and eventually after a halved 19th,Roshini Sangani defeated Swen with a net Par receiving a stroke to win the Pam Fernando Trophy 2015.   Final Results   Pin Fernando Trophy 2015 Winner: Arvind Fernando 3 & 1 Runner-up: Ravindra Wijegunaratne   Pam Fernando Trophy 2015 Winner: Roshini Sangani 20th Runner-up: Swen Selvaratnam
