Golf: Hambantota Regional Junior Open tees off on Sunday

The Inaugural Hambantota Regional Junior Open Golf Championship 2019, will be played at the Shangri La Golf Course in Hambantota on Sunday (3) and Monday (4), organised and conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union Junior Sub Committee. 

An excellent turn-out of over 60 entries from Royal Colombo Golf Club, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, Victoria Golf & Country Resort, Sri Lanka Navy, Anuradhapura, Killinochchi will participate in the two Round Regional Junior Open Golf Championship. 

Haroon Aslam of VGCR and S. Dhuwarshan from NEGC seem to be the favourites to battle for supremacy in the Gold Category for Boys, while Kayla Perera is billed to dominate the Girls Gold and Silver Combined Category. 

The Boys Silver Division appears to have the toughest competition in the Hambantota Regional Junior Open Championship with the leading contenders, Nirekh Tejwani, Yannik Perera, K. Dhanushan, Levon Niyarepola set to fight for honours. 

The Bronze division Age Category 10-11+ over two rounds of 14 Holes each, N W G Shanal Binushka, Reshan Algama, Khvan Tejwani and Kaya Daluwatte will be locking horns to snatch victory. 

The Copper Division for Age 9+ & under played over two rounds of 9 holes each, has C, Dharaniyan (NEGC) Keshav Algama, Thejas Rathiskanth, Kaiyan Johnpillai and Varun Fernando as the pick of the youngest crop. 

PRIMA Sunrise Bread is the Regional Junior Golf Tournament Sponsor, while Shangri La Hambantota is the Hotel Sponsor. 

The Awards Ceremony will be held at the Shangri La Golf Club House Hambantota on Monday (4) at the conclusion of the 2nd Round of the event.
