Golf: Navinda Ranga wins March Edition in Nuwara Eliya

Veteran Amateur Golfer Navinda Ranga, came to his own at the beautiful Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Course (NEGC) leading all four rounds of the LECTRA Sri Lanka Golf Grand-Prix 2019, March edition wining two strokes from another veteran B.A. Sanjeewa, who was eight strokes ahead of Sisira Kumara the winner of the February edition played at the RCGC in Colombo. 

M.U. Chanaka Perera the reigning Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Champion, secured 4th place with 313 Gross aggregate over 4 rounds, 14 strokes behind the winner. 

Haroon Aslam the upcoming prospect from Victoria Golf & Country Resort (VGCR) continued his progressive improvement finishing in Tied 5th place with seasoned players J.M.D. Indika, Vinoth Kumar from NEGC and U.A. Ranasinghe who won all the stroke play events Gross and Net at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship 2018. 

The Sri Lanka Golf Union have commenced a physical training program in cooperation with the Ministry of Sport and the NOC, enhancing performance of the SLGU national pool players. 

The emergence of some of the youngsters like U.A. Ranasinghe, Sampath Kelum and Chanaka Perera who won the Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship is a testimony to the progress of physical fitness. 

The on-going LECTRA Sri Lanka Golf Grand Prix 2019, by Apparel Technologies, sponsored by Bobbin Group of Companies facilitates the Sri Lankan pool players and other top Amateurs to be Ranked among the best in the world, since all scores of the Grand-Prix events are sent to R&A – WAGR (World Amateur Golf Rankings) and every year the APGC (Asia-Pacific Golf Federation) Championship event is played on a rotation basis in an exceptional venue globally. 

WAGR monitored by R&A is the bench-mark to measure the individual ranking of Amateur Golfers in the Asia Pacific Region.
