A strong 18-member Sri Lanka women's team left the country on Tuesday (5) to take part in the preliminary rounds of the World League Hockey Championship (WLHC).
The WLHC will be held in Singapore from April 9 to 20.
Madura Dharmaratne, the former Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya and Sri Lanka Navy centre half will captain the Sri Lanka Women's team while goalkeeper Jeewanthi Keerthiratne, from Sri Lanka Navy and Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, has been appointed as deputy captain.
Besides Sri Lanka and hosts Singapore Hong Kong, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Cambodia and Brunei will participate in the tournament where the top two teams are set to qualify for the second round.
Sri Lanka will take on Singapore on Saturday (9), followed by their games against Hong Kong and Thailand, set to be played on Sunday (10 and Monday (11).
After a day's break Sri Lanka will take on Kazakhstan on Wednesday (13).
They will meet Brunei on Thursday (14) before taking on Cambodia next Friday (15) in their final game of the competition.
