The Rajarata University in Mihintale will host the All-Island Schools Hockey Tournament for Boys and Girls Under-18, from July 1 to 4. Players born on or after January 18, 2000 will fulfill the eligibility criteria.
Teams from a multitude of Districts-Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Matale, Galle, Matara, Polonnaruwa, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Badulla and Puttalam- have already entered.
Although the closing date for entries was June 20, teams that desire to take part could do so by contracting Anuruddha Herath Bandara, the Secretary o the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association on 0719059933. They Should do so before June 27.
The organisers are planning to have three courts.
White the initial rounds will be played on a league basis, the knockout system will prevail from the quarter-finals.
The decision to have this tournament in Mihintale is a good one. The Anuradhapura/Mihintale area is not noted for its Hockey prowess. Perhaps this event could change all that.
