MAS Holdings were crowned unbeaten Mercantile 'B' Division League Hockey Champs 2017, at the Astro Turf, Race Course in Colombo.
Playing as a well knit unit with fine teamwork, MAS stickers displayed a high quality run and pass game to win all 5 matches they played in the League.
MAS qualified for the Mercantile 'B' Knockout (KO) tournament 2017 finals, defeating Singer 3-2 last week.
MAS Hockey started in 2015 and emerged champs in the Mercantile 'C' Division in their first year in competitive Mercantile Hockey in 2016, and were 4th in the League, while reaching the semifinals in the KO Tournament. In the same year, MAS were Runners-up at the Mercantile 7s.
On their way to the 2017 League Championship, MAS defeated Seylan Bank 6-2, Nations Trust Bank 2-1, Singer Sri Lanka 3-1, Janashakthi Insurance 2-1 and Commercial Bank 'B' 2-1.
The leading goal scorers for MAS were Dhanushka Weeraratne (6), Shahid Kuthubdeen (4), and 1-each by Shammika Meegahapola, Isuru Wijenayake, Lakmal Ranasinghe, Yohan Thilakaratne, Jeshurun Arulrajah and Dhananjaya Madugalle.

As per the agreement plantation workers will receive Rs. 1350 daily minimum wage and Rs. 350 ’’productivity incentive’’ totalling Rs. 1700. Sources revealed that the gazette instituting the new wages will be released tonight and a fourteen day objection period will commence.
