St. Thomas' College Matale and Nalanda College Colombo were declared boys joint champions, when Nalanda held St. Thomas' to a one-all draw in the boys final of the All-Island Schools Hockey Championship 2017 for boys and girls Under-18 concluded at Rajarata University ground in Mihintale.
Nalandians scored their goal through center forward S. Sapumal while Raneesha Herath netted a goal for Matale Thomians.
The four day tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Hockey Association saw the participation of 46 teams island wide, 28 in the boys category and 18 in the girls category.
In the semi-finals Nalanda beat Joseph Vas Wennappuwa 2-1 while St. Thomas' Matale beat St. Thomas' Mount Lavinia 2-0 to enter the final.
In the play off for the boys third place Joseph Vas outclassed St. Thomas' Mt Lavinia 3 goals to nil.
