After a decade long stay at Reid Avenue the Orville Abayanaike Memorial Trophy made its way to Mt. Lavinia on Saturday (11) when S. Thomas' College defeated Royal College 3-1 in their 18th traditional hockey encounter at the Astro Hockey Turf in Colombo.
In a game dominated by speedy set of forwards of both schools, who saw a fast run and pass game, the Thomians proceeded to steer the momentum in the first half.
Goals for the winners were shot by Ashwin Ellepola, who struck twice and Dion Dias.
Sachithra Malshan scored the solitary goal for Royal.
Thomian skipper Thilina Dela was adjudged the Best Player of the Match for his prolific play and result orienting passes.
