Chul Bul Pandey, ridden by M. Christopher and owned by Anura Delgoda, seized the cynosure of the day when it won the Plantation Industries Cup on the Ladies Day Out Horse Racing event held at the Racecourse in Nuwara Eliya on Saturday (17).
The Plantation Industries Cup which was the feature event of the day for Class I and II horses of 1600metres, looked like it was going to be a close affair when all four runners were within a length of each other at the 600metre mark, until front runner Chul Bul Pandey decided to take things to their own hands.
The winner quickened and the opposition was left struggling behind a superb burst of acceleration to win the trophy as well as the cash award of Rs. 250,000.
Camorra, ridden by K. Sanjeewan finished at second followed by Wind Stream ridden by Farahan Alam.
Prior to the main race Icelandic, ridden by S. Suganthan, grabbed an unchallenged victory in the Royal Turf Club (RTC) Ladies Day Cup where the winner took home a stake of Rs. 140,000 as cash award in the race for Class III and IV horses of 1070metres.
At second Don Hasa, ridden by S. Dasaradan came in with Royal Oak ridden by Farahan Alam coming in at third.
The day kicked off with the Lady McCullum Cup, a three-quarter-bred race of 1000metres, which gave Carbrese, ridden by K. Sanjeewan the first win the of the day.
Queen of the Hills, ridden by M. Mohanraj and Airborne II, ridden by S. Dasaradan finished at second and third respectively.
Ashok Kumar took Torpedo to the winning post in the Queens Autumn Cup, the Class V race of 1400metres to win Rs. 75,000 in cash.
Farahan Alam rode Agusta to second place followed by Snow Queen, ridden by M. Christopher.
In the final race of the day for the Ceylon Ladies Cup, Arundathi ridden by M. Mohanraj won the race for the half-bred horses of 1000metres.
Reabath ridden by L. Dayalan was placed second while City Shot, ridden by Dhinesh came in at third.
The RTC will conduct its next race on October 29.
