The Ministry of Sports has named a 14-member National Sports Council (NSC) with former Sri Lanka cricket captain Mahela Jayawadene named as its Chairman.
The newly named NSC includes names of an array of personalities from the field of sports, in different capacities.
The NSC includes former Sri Lanka cricket captain and current MCC Chairman - Kumar Sangakkara, international motorsport icon - Dilantha Malagamuwa, former ace swimmer and Olympian - Julian Bolling, former National Sports Selection Committee Chairman and present Commander of the Army - Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, former Sri Lanka basketball skipper and national netball player and CEO of Hemas - Kasthuri Wilson, Chairman of Sri Lanka Para Olympic Committee - Major General Rajitha Ampemohotti, former oarsman and current President of Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and CEO of Sri Lanka Telecom - Rohan Fernando, Sports Lawyer - Rowena Samarasinghe, Treasurer of Sri Lanka Boxing Association, AIBA certified international boxing coach and Director Manufacturing of MAS - Ruwan Keragala, FIBA Technical Delegate and former basketball player - Yashwanth Muttettuwegama, CEO and Director of Dialog Axiata - Supun Weerasinghe and Director General of Sports Department and Sports Development - Amal Edirisooriya, Chairman of EWis Group of Companies - Sanjeewa Wickramanayake.
Thiyumi Abeysinghe is the Appointed Secretary of NSC.
The official ceremony to introduce the NSC was held today (20) evening from 5.00pm at the Ministry of Sports premises.
