Sport

Jacques Gunawardena, brand ambassador for KTM- Sri Lanka, is leading the ‘Motocross Championship 2019’ and poised to be crowned national champ following the final race at Gunners Super Cross in Minneriya on Sunday (6).

This year, has seen a dominant display from the young Jacques and KTM, having been in the frontline of championship racing with almost seven wins in his name so far this season.

In April, he claimed the overall championship at NEM Motocross in Nuwara Eliya, but a fall in race two meant Jacques had to settle for third place at Fox Hill held in April.

However, this made no difference to the championship as Jacques is already leading the point table for Motocross National Championship 2019.

Following the fall at Fox Hill, Jacques managed to turn things around and in continuing his winning ways, once again is the star rider of the season by proving his mettle as he continued to claim the overall championship at almost all the subsequent races.

Jacques won the overall championship at Commando Super Cross in Kuda Oya, Vijayabahu Super Cross in Kurunegala among national riders where he placed second and third in both events overall with foreign riders, making him the highest points taker in the National ranking, Gajaba Super Cross in Anuradhapura, Sappers Gympo in Embilipitiya and a podium finishes of first and second at Walawa Super Cross in Udawalawe.

Jacques’s remarkable track record combined with KTM bikes, which are renowned for a rich racing experience giving racers exquisite cutting-edge performance and durability, showcases a strong partnership geared to produce the best performances, endurance and reliability always.

KTM, Europe’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, dominates the off-road segment the world over, and has won every edition of the Dakar Rally since 2009, adding 270 plus world championship titles to their credit.

KTM was introduced to Sri Lanka last year by David Pieris Motor Company and six KTM models including Duke 125, Duke 200, RC 200, Duke 250, Duke 390 and RC 390 are now available locally.
