Eshan Pieris has joined Absolute Racing for this year’s F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA Winter Series.
The 20-year-old Colombo-native graduates from Asian Formula Renault Series, in which he completed his maiden single seater season.
Pieris is Sri Lanka’s number one motor racing prospect and he is following in the footsteps of many of today’s promising young drivers by competing in the Asian top junior single-seater category.
His signing by Absolute Racing is an evidence of his readiness to step up in the racing ladder.
With a strong karting background in Asia and wins and podiums finishes under his belt in single seater categories, Pieris will partner with Chinese talented driver Ye Yifei, with a third driver yet to be named.
“It feels really good to be working with a team like Absolute Racing that has a strong reputation for racing in Asia,” said Eshan.
“I am sure I can learn a lot from them and gain a very good experience of what its like to work with one of the leading teams in the region. I’m really excited and can’t wait to get the championship underway.”
Absolute Racing’s Team Director Ingo Matter said “We are delighted to announce Eshan as our F3 driver for the 2018 Winter Series season. He’s shown pace and determination on his previous single seater season. We look forward to working with him and developing him into a front-running driver”.
The F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA Winter Series will be decided over nine races.
The three, triple-header rounds will begin on January 13 at Thailand’s Buriram International Circuit where the championship will make its debut, followed by a further two rounds at a second Asian FIA Grade 1 track, Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit, on January 20 and February 24.
