Sri Lanka Air Force gained a close 54-51 goals win over Sri Lanka Navy in the final of the Defence Services Netball Championships at the Air Force netball courts in Colombo last week.
This was the ninth Defence Services Netball championships and Air Force won it for the ninth successive time.
Sri Lanka Navy emerged champions at the National Netball Championships held in Anuradhapura with Air Force taking second place after a close fight.
Both teams are packed with national players and whenever these two teams clash a high standard of netball prevails.
Air Force led the three quarters at 16-10, 15-14, 16-11. In the last quarter Navy took the lead at 16-7.
In the first round Navy beat Army 47-44 (13-7, 9-14, 11-13 and14-10).
In the other game Air Force beat Army 46-45 (10-9, 11-15, 2-14, 13-7).
Dulanga Dananji of the Sri Lanka Air Force was adjudged the Netball Queen.
Thilini Wattegedera of Sri Lanka Air Force was selected as the Best Center Court Player.
Chaturangi Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka Air Force was selected as the Best Defender and Hasitha Mendis of the Sri Lanka Navy was selected as the Best Shooter.
