Sport

The inaugural Marie Musaeus-Rohini Alles netball encounter got off to an excellent start with an absorbing game of netball at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday between Gateway College and Musaeus College.

In a game where fortunes swayed the spectators were at the edge of their seats till the final whistle was blown.

Finally Musaeus College carried the glittering Musaeus-Alles trophy with a close 27-25 victory.

The scores bears evidence how the game had gone with the scores were deadlocked 7-all at the end of the first quarter.

Goal Attacks and Goal shooters were well fed by the centers as the scoreboard was kept moving by both sides. Musaeus goal attack shooter made full use of their height to make the Gateway defenders busy.

On the other hand Gateway attackers were not far behind the Colombo 7 lasses as they too kept on attacking to give the Musaeus goal keeper a hard time.

Gateway led in the second quarter 14-13 as both teams made a valiant effort to grab the initiative.

Gateway led in the third quarter 21-20. Musaeus came back to the game in the vital quarter as they played with a well positioned game.

Gateway changed the pattern of play and made brave moves but failed to put the finishing touches as their shooter missed scoring opportunities at regular intervals.

Adding seven points against five points of Gateway, Musaeus shot to the lead 27-25 and had their hands on the inaugural Marie Museaus-Rohini Alles Trophy.

Museaus won the Under-15 match 7-5 in a closely contested clash and in the Invitational match Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo defeated Gateway College, Kandy 15-8.

Pamoda Jayasekera (Musaeus College) was adjudged the Best Player of the Match.
