The winners led right throughout, but their top performance came in the first quarter 18-1 before Japan retaliated to end the second quarter at 18-4.
A reenergized Sri Lankan side bounced back to finish the third quarter at 31-6 before ending the game 67-14 comprehensively.
In a Group 'A' game, defending champions Singapore defeated hosts Thailand 49-28, while Hong Kong thrashed Chinese Taipei 59-11.
