St. Joseph Girls School Gampola and Bandarapola MV Matale bagged major honours at the qualifying tournament of the 26th All-Island Milo Schools Netball Championship 2017 held at Sri Sangamitta girls National School ground in Matale.
Participating in the Division 'A' school competition the lasses from St. Joseph Girls School Gampola came out on top in all age groups Under-15, 17 and 19 while reigning champions Bandarapola MV Matale won two titles Under-15 and Under-17 as they out played Sujatha Balika School Kumbiyangoda in Matale in the two respective finals of the Division B school competition.
This qualifying tournament organised by sports education advisor Ramya Hendeniya under the guidance of Sri Lanka schools Netball Association attracted 68 girls’ teams from the districts of Matale, Nuwara Eliya and Katugastota, Teldeniya and Gampola educational regions in the Kandy district.
The completion of the tournament at Matale centre saw 17 teams qualifying for the finals which comprised four teams each in the Division A and two teams each in the Division B Under-15 and 17 age groups and only one in the Under-19 age category.
