Isipathana College won the 11th Lanka Lions Inter-School Tag Rugby Sevens tournament played at the Sharjah Wanderers Club ground on Friday (23). With the win they annexed the Roger Rodrigo Challenge Cup for the first time after beating four-time winners Trinity College 14-7 in the Cup final. Isipathana dominated the pool stages with wins against Carey College (15-7), Wesley College (21-7), St. Anthony’s College (40-7) and Zahira College (21-0) despite losing to Trinity (0-7). In the semi-final Isipathana beat Thurstan College (14-7) before edging out Lumbini College (7-0) in the semi-final. Trinity, who beat Isipathana in the pool stage, became the favoutires after wins against former champions Zahira (31-0), Carey (66-0), Wesley (49-7) and St. Anthony’s (56-0). They went on to edge Wesley 14-12 in the quarter-final and 14-12 and came out with a superb performance to beat Mahanama College 14-5 in the semi-final. St. Peter’s College beat Wesley to win the Plate title while Zahira and Dharmaraja colleges won the Bowl and Spoon championships respectively. Thusitha Dushan of Lumbini was named the Player of the Tournament for his tally of 11 tries in the pool stage.

The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
