Japan scored from three converted tries to record their second successive win of the competition which put them on top of Pool 'A' standings.
Earlier they beat Chinese Taipei 22-0.
Sri Lanka sits at second in the Pool with a win and a loss.
Earlier in the day Sri Lanka recorded a smashing 31-0 win against China in their opening match of the Asian 7s Series.
Sri Lanka scored from five tries and three conversions.
Sri Lanka will meet Chinese Taipei in their final Pool 'A' game at 9.20am (SL Time) on Saturday (15).
