Rugby: Royal junior coach Saldin needs help

Sport

Former Sri Lanka, CH and FC¸ CR and FC and Zahira College rugby player M.R. Saldin has been diagnosed with a chronic cancer.

Doctors have advised an immediate kidney transplant as his condition is identified as life-threatening.

Saldin, presently attached with Royal College as its junior rugby coach, played for the Zahira First XV team for many years before ending his school career in 1998.

He joined the Old Zahira Sports Club in 1999 and switched to Navy Sports Club the same year.

Following season he joined CR and FC and rejoined Navy SC in 2000.

From 2002 to 2006 he was a major contributor for CH and FC.

He was a member of the Sri Lanka Rugby team during 2000 and 2004.

He also played football for Zahira.

After calling it quits to his short yet glittering playing career, Saldin focused on taking up coaching.

He obtained the IRB Level 2 Rugby Coach status and completed the IRB Coaching Sevens Level 1 while coaching the Zahira senior team in 2007 and 2008.

He took charge of the Zahira junior teams in 2012 and 2013 before joining Royal.

According to Saldin’s close friends and relatives, both his kidneys have been confirmed as effected.

He is in need of a ‘O Positive’ kidney as the medical team, family and friends eagerly await a donor, who could come forward to cure Saldin from his plight.

Presently his former team mates at school have launched a fund raising campaign to assist Saldin.

Intended donors and contributors could contact Saldin’s family members on 0777512040 or 0777559577.
