The Treasurer of Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), A.A.M. Riyaz, has suddenly decided to step down from his position, citing personal reasons but will continue to serve until a proper replacement is named.
Riyaz has submitted his letter of resignation from the post last week, after serving as Treasurer of SLRFU for four months.
He was elected in March this year and was in line to continue in office for two years.
A highly placed official of SLRFU commenting on the development stated that Riyaz's resignation was mainly due to the difficulty in coping up with his employment commitments.
"Besides being the Treasurer of SLRFU, which is a honorary commitment, he is employed in a bank. He has recently received a promotion and he finds very difficult to find time to work in both posts. Hence he has requested us to appoint a new person for the post he is vacating. Until a new person is appointed, Riyaz will continue to work in the same capacity".
"Due to work pressure and personal commitments, I find it very difficult to handle both posts hence thought of resigning from the post of Treasurer at SLRFU. Whatever news that was carried out in some newspapers on my resignation, I am fully unaware of and are baseless," Riyaz stated.
