Rugby: Sri Lanka men and women emerge Plate champions in Korea

Sri Lanka men and women 7s teams clinched the Plate titles at the Second Leg of the Asian Sevens Series 2017 played at the Namdong Asiad Stadium in Incheon, South Korea last weekend. 

In the Men's Plate final, Sri Lanka thrashed Malaysia by 43-7 with a tally of seven tries and four conversions to emerge winners while the Lankan women beat Thailand by 24-12 to annex the Plate title.

The Men's side recorded a smashing 42-0 win against the Philippines while Malaysia edged out Chinese Taipei by 26-21 in the Plate semi-finals. 

Sri Lanka was beaten by Hong Kong 12-31 in the Cup quarter-finals. 

Hosts South Korea went on to record an upset 17-12 win against Japan to win the Cup championship. 

In the Women's tournament, Sri Lanka recorded four tries and two conversions to beat Thailand in the Plate final after edging out Singapore by 19-15 in the semi-finals. 

In the Cup quarter-finals Sri Lanka lost to Kazakhstan 7-27. 

Japan won the Cup championship beating China by 19-14. 

The Third and final leg of the Asian Sevens Series will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on October 14 and 15 at the Racecourse ground.
