The first rugby tournament for the year organised and conducted by the Women's Rugby Committee of the Sri Lanka Rugby, the Inter-Province Rugby Development 7s, will kick off at the Sri Lanka Navy Grounds, Welisara, on Sunday (31).
The 12-team Inter-Province Women's Rugby Development 7s, will be played for the SAGT Trophy, named after the sponsor, South Asian Gateway Terminals.
The tournament will be played for Cup, Plate and Bowl championships.
The final matches will commence from 4.35pm and the Cup final is scheduled to take place at 5.15pm.
A total number of 12 teams have confirmed their participation from eight Provincial Unions.
Each participating team will be presented with SAGT branded Rugby Balls and certificates by Sri Lanka Rugby.
The eight Provincial Unions with the number of participating teams will be -- two each from Western, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern Provinces and a team each representing the Central, Eastern, North Central and Western Provinces.
Ted Muttiah, Chief Commercial Officer of SAGT, will grace the awards ceremony as the Chief Guest along with the Guest of Honour Rear Admiral H.A.U.D. Hettiarachchi, Chairman Navy Rugby Committee and Lasitha Gunaratne, President of Sri Lanka Rugby to away the trophies.
