Sri Jayawardenapura University with Sri Lanka's largest swimming pool with ten lanes will host the 'Ritzbury' Vidudaya Inter Schools Swimming Championship 2018 on January 27 and 28.
The University's Physical Education Department and Sports Council with the idea of promoting swimming among the school children and to compete for the first time in this international standard has embarked on this programme.
The event will attract over 2500 swimmers from over 130 schools and will be worked off for two days commencing next Saturday (27).
The competition will be conducted in the age groups of under nine, eleven, thirteen, fifteen, seventeen and nineteen year competitors vying for junior, senior and overall champion trophies.
Sri Jayawardenapura University with a history of over 65 years are in the driving seat in the inter universities sports arena for the last three to four years.
They dominate their supremacy over fifteen universities in thirty four events.
The first athlete to represent Sri Lanka from the university at Olympic was Sumedha Ranasinghe in the Javelin Throw event.
With a sports back ground of such the university with the blessings of the Ministry of Education and the Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Association had taken a correct step in hosting this mega event, the first in the 2018 swimming calendar to show their prowess in the water and to bring glory for their respective schools and for themselves.
The closing date for closing of applications will be January 22.
